Dear CARE supporters,
Some sad news to start with. Our dear friend Hooch, who has been with us for a long time has sadly become more and more ill in recent months, and has now begun to suffer from daily nose bleeds, so with heavy hearts it was decided that Hooch should be put to sleep to avoid any further stress. Hooch will be greatly missed by us all at CARE.

On a much more cheerful note, and one which makes our work at CARE so worthwhile. Samson, formerly known as Steven, was re-homed by a lovely family who took him when he was a puppy. When he originally arrived at his new home, he was very worried, but with gentle persuasion and lots of loving care, he has settled in very well, loves playing with the four children and has settled in so very well.

Greece has now entered the grim worldwide recession which, as you all know is very bad news for all charities.
CARE has struggled to get through the winter months and has still has a long way to go. To all who sent a donation, we send our sincere thanks, as without your support we couldn't have made it and most of our rescue animals would have died.
Cheryl works tirelessly to do what she can but has found the situation in general much worse than previous years. Many English residents have had to sell up and go back to the UK as there is very little work around and sadly have had to leave their pets, so we have been inundated with re-homing requests.
Obviously, with no direct flights during the winter, transporting the animals to new homes in Europe has become almost impossible. In addittion to our rescue dogs, cats and donkeys (the donkeys are taken to Corfu Donkey Rescue) we have now saved a very old unwanted pony (Storm) which was on his final journey to the butcher, so if you are looking to home the lovely old boy, please let us know.

Storm would love to end his years in peace and quiet in a loving environment, so please contact us if you could possibly help Storm.
In the UK, CARE is presently organising a huge fundraising evening in London which hopefully will be sometime in the Autumn. Keep reading the updates for more information, we will keep you posted. The evening promises to be an incredible event, hopefully never to be forgotten.
PLEASE PLEASE continue to support us at CARE, even though we understand how difficult it is with the current economic climate. Remember, without you, there is no CARE.
We wish you all an incredible happy Easter, and our thanks again from all of us, and most importantly, the animals of Corfu.

NEWS FLASH - WE DESPERATEY NEED YOUR SUPPORT AND HELP - April 2010
CARE is in desperate need of funds. We have received very few donations for the last few months which we can only put down to the World financial crisis but without your help we cannot continue. Please, please dig deep into your pockets and send what you can as we can barely cover the cost of the dog food which is extremely worrying. You can donate on line or send personal cheques (sterling and euro) to us at our London premises at 111 Cheyne Walk, London SW10 0DJ. Unless we receive money within the next few weeks we will have no option but to close which will be a tradegy. We are already having to turn away all urgent calls which is heart breaking as we cannot bear leaving any animal suffering but there is nothing else we can do. If you can help we beg you to send some money. Without it we close very soon.
We are presently trying to establish CARE as a registered charity in the UK, but the process is very cost prohibitive at present. Should anyone have any helpful ideas on how we could expedite this, or have any contacts in this field, please do let us know.
THE CORFIOT NEWSPAPER
We would like to hugely thank Hilary Piapetis who runs the very successful CORFIOT newspaper for lletting CARE run a monthly advertisment at no cost. This will be a named 'DOG OF THE MONTH' so please support THE CORFIOT and catch up on the local news.
TRANSLATIONS IN GREEK AND GERMAN - YOUR HELP IS NEEDED?
Anyone pressing the Greek or German option (top of home page) will quickly see that both sites have not been updated and we are desperatly hoping someone could offer to translate into Greek and German from the English version on a regular basis including uploading all new photographs? if anybody is interested please e-mail us for further information.
CV TRAVEL
Once again CV Travel who are the leading tour operators on Corfu have very kindly agreed to sponsor CARE this summer and will be providing envelopes in every villa for funds. A huge thank you.

Olli
Olli and Alfie were found on the main Paloikastritsa road by a bus driver who was luckily on his tea break. They also had two siblings, one of which sadly died the day after she was brought to the shelter. Ollie and Alfie have both been re-homed in Germany and their sibling is now very happily living with a family in Corfu.

Ulli (formerly know as Malcolm)
We never put Ulli on our adoption page as we feared he would never be rehomed as he had a tendancy to bite and we were very worried for his future which was looking extremely glum. Cheryl persevered until he snapped one day so a call was put through to our German colleagues to ask their advice. Uta managed to find a person with considerable dog skills as a dog whisperer in Germany so he was flown there immediately. As you can see he is now a very happy and healthy dog and loves other animals and no longer bites. What a great ending.

Kane
My first holiday snap whilst on holiday in Groemitz. As you can see it was all very stress free and I had such a lovely time. There were many other dogs there and having completed my Dog School I no longer require a leash, so things are certainly looking up. Thank you.

OTE
I was found in the village of Skripero, starving and looking very malnourished, by a concerned woman called Wendy. She very kindly picked me up and took me to the vet for a checkup. Apart from being very thin and half my "normal weight", I was not too ill, so following a course of vitamins and regular food, Cheryl collected me from Wendy and I am now living with Cheryl as a permanent houseguest, joining the other two boxers she has. As you can see, I am doing very well, and I am very very happy. Thank you so much. Lots of Licks. OTE

Bob (formely known as Chicco!)
i'My new name is Bob and my family and friends mostly call me 'little donkey' as I have such big ears! I wanted to say hello and tell you how much I like it at the seaside. My new Mum often goes to the beach with me and we meet lots of other dogs and have lots of fun with them. I also love my bath but Mum wont let me have one at the moment as it is too cold. I hope it gets warmer soon so I can swim again. Dad often takes me for walks with my best friend Trixie who lives with me who I like very much. Bye for now - licks and woofs Little Donkey, Mum, Dad and Trixie'

Sampson and Hercules
Sampson and Hercules are just 2 of the 8 puppies we found in a plastic bag where they had been for over 24 hours. Only one or two days old we thought it only humane to euthanize them as not only did they look half dead but we thought they were simply too young to survive. As we arrived at the clinic we were told the vet was away on an emergency visit so Carole who is the president of CARE took them to her house via the chemist were 8 baby bottles and powdered milk were purchased. All her house guests rallied round to help and a 2 hour, round the clock feeding rota was administered. Against all odds they all survived and are totally beautiful, happy and wonderful pups who have all found fantastic and caring homes. Carole has kept 2 to add to her other 7 rescue dogs at her home.
We would also like to say a very special thank you to one particular friend of Caroles for covering the cost of all 8 puppies including vet bills, microchips, blood tests, passports and flight costs - Libby, you have been amazing and thank you.

Hella
Betsy was a terrified puppy when we found her but look at her now in her new home with her fellow housemate! She has now been named Hella and after only 10 days with her new family, she is unrecognizable both in looks and temperament. She was terrified to go near a road and parked cars but now loves her walks where she runs the entire way – her new family absolutely adore her so what a great ending.

I'm doing good, what could I wish more?"

Norman
Ah Norman. What a lovely dog. He was left tied to a gate having
been found by an English couple on holiday who contacted CARE.
We don't know if you follow football but we called him Norman
after an old footballer from the seventies called Norman Hunter
whose nickname was "Norman' bites your legs' Hunter. He
didn't really bite, it was just affection and happiness to be
given some attention at last. Norman went to Germany last week.
We put a letter in with his passport asking his new owners to
contact us with news and pictures of him in his new home. Again
there were tears at the airport, this time the CARE teams!. |

Bones
This is Bones . He was one of two very young dogs that
turned up in a village a few weeks ago. An Englishman, who has
a house here, had him and his sister ' Rags' dumped outside their
house. A picture of Rags follows below. Bones was found in far
worse condition than his sister, Rags and we took them both to
the vet who gave them injections, worm and flea treatments, and
a good brush up.
The good news is that they only stayed here for a few
weeks before a home was found for them together in Germany. We
have asked their new owners to keep us informed of their progress. |

Rags
This is Rags. Sister to Bones, who is now happily homed
in Germany with her brother Bones. |

Bonnie
Bonnie. She was brought to us by an English couple who were working
on the Marina in Gouvia. They had taken the dog in after finding
it wandering around the Marina as a puppy. They were forced to
return to England because of personal reasons and needed somebody
to take the dog. We found her a home in Germany after a few weeks
of her living in our house. |

Small
Puppies
This is a photo of the three puppies which are still in
foster care. This picture was taken three weeks ago. They were
found on the main road near Vatos and had obviously been separated
from their mother at too early an age. However , after several
weeks of intensive bottle feeding they have survived and are booked
on the plane to Dusseldorf tomorrow night. Another result from
a seemingly hopeless case! |
 |
 |
|
Dino
Here is a picture of Dino. Another dog that we kept for several
weeks. We went to the vet to be told that a lady had brought
this puppy to be put to sleep. The puppy was too old to be put
to sleep so we placed Dino (named after one of the vets) in our
care. He left for Germany, on Saturday with Gypsy. |

Bella
This lovely female dog was picked up this summer along with 9
puppies which subsequently have all been found new homes. Here
